Stupid Technology is a series of events dedicated to explore the continuous facepalm that computer technology is. From racist artificial intelligence to software-powered phrenology, digital technologies will always find a way to make us wonder why something was ever made, and who thought it was a good idea.
Stupid Technology does not want to change the status quo. In fact, we consider that for this series of events to make sense, we need the status quo. At the same time, we want to make fun of stupid technology and, by proxy, of the brilliant minds behind it (well, we actually mostly want to make fun of those who bankroll and promote stupid technology).
Stupid Technology will engage with academic texts in order to create Stupid Technology Manifestos, which will then be put in practice in a hackathon, inspired by the amazing Stupid Shit Hackathon organized by Sam Lavigne and Amelia Winger-Bearskin.
Stupid Technology will be organized around Seasons, each season focused on one particular technology. For particularly stupid technologies, we may dedicate multi-season arcs.
Stupid Technology is the Research and Development arm of Ridiculous Software.
